The council notified property owners about the proposed changes and held a public hearing in August, where community members expressed confusion regarding the zoning adjustments. A chart was provided to the council, detailing approximately ten properties where owners requested different zoning classifications for various reasons, including one property under contract for commercial sale while currently used as a residence.
Mr. Turner recommended adopting the proposed changes based on these requests, emphasizing that the updated zoning map reflects the community's input. Additionally, he noted that all government and quasi-government properties, including those owned by Cherokee County and the school board, have been categorized under special use, which is also represented in the new map. The council is expected to take action on these recommendations in the coming sessions.
