During a recent government meeting, officials discussed a significant funding request for the development of Simmons Creek County Park, which spans 66.7 acres. The proposal includes a request for $1.7 million from the rural allocation, complemented by a substantial matching contribution of $4.1 million.

Adam Ronan, a land resource planner with the Parks and Recreation Commission (PRC), presented details about the project, which encompasses two tax parcels: the larger 53-acre Simmons Creek parcel and a 13-acre Willow Oak parcel. Ronan emphasized the importance of the park's location on John's Island, near Old Pond Road, highlighting the area's growth and the existing active and passive parks nearby, including James Island County Park and Mullet Hall.

Ronan also underscored the significance of connectivity between parks, advocating for enhanced bike and pedestrian access to promote community engagement with the natural environment. The discussion reflects ongoing efforts to expand recreational opportunities in the county, addressing both current needs and future growth.
