During a recent government meeting, community members raised concerns regarding traffic safety and accident rates at various intersections, particularly focusing on the proposed roundabout at Hap Bridal. Andrew Agostini, a resident, highlighted the alarming number of accidents at the intersections of Walnut and Orchard, which recorded 11 incidents over five years, and 33 accidents at the intersection of Winnetka Avenue and Sunset Ridge. He questioned why the roundabout project was prioritized over these more accident-prone locations.
In response, officials explained that the roundabout was chosen as the best alternative based on a comprehensive study, although they acknowledged the need to consider other intersections as well. Agostini expressed concerns about potential traffic backups on Willow Road if an accident were to occur at the roundabout, emphasizing the busy nature of the intersection.
Officials reassured attendees that accidents in roundabouts are typically low-speed side-swipe collisions, which are less likely to result in serious injuries. They noted that traffic management strategies, including police presence to direct vehicles, would be in place to mitigate congestion during incidents.
Milton Wood, another resident, contributed to the discussion by sharing his background in corporate strategy, although he did not provide specific insights related to the traffic concerns. The meeting underscored the community's focus on improving traffic safety and the need for ongoing dialogue about infrastructure decisions.
