During a recent meeting of the Lakewood Board of Education, several key resolutions were discussed that aim to enhance educational and health services for students in the district.

One significant resolution involves a partnership with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation to establish a mobile vision clinic. This initiative will see the Vision First van visiting elementary schools to provide free eye exams and glasses to pre-kindergarten through first-grade students, ensuring that all children have access to essential vision care, regardless of their registration status with the Cleveland Clinic.

Additionally, the Board approved an agreement with Legacy Visiting Health Services to provide a private duty nurse for a kindergarten student during the 2024-2025 school year. This service is designed to meet the specific health and safety needs of the student.

The Board also renewed its collaboration with Asian Services in Action, continuing to support English Learner (EL) students through after-school programming at no cost to the district. This partnership has been in place for several years and aims to enhance academic support for these students.

Furthermore, the Board adopted a new course of study for elementary English Language Arts, developed collaboratively by educators from the district's English Language Arts department and the Department of Teaching and Learning.

In the human resources segment of the meeting, a range of personnel actions were outlined, including 111 certified actions, which encompass appointments and special compensations, as well as various actions for classified employees and community recreation programs.

The meeting concluded with Board members highlighting the vibrant activities taking place as the school year begins, including sports events and music programs, encouraging community engagement in upcoming school events.
