The Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club presented plans for hosting the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) tournament scheduled for June 22-25, 2025, during a recent government meeting. Representatives Barbara May, Karen Zimmerman, Kate Stout, and Andrew Giese outlined their vision for the event, emphasizing its potential economic impact on the local community, estimated between $150,000 to $300,000.
The club aims to collaborate with the Economic Development Commission and local chambers of commerce to ensure the tournament is a community-wide event. With approximately 96 young golfers and their families expected to attend, the club is keen on maximizing local engagement and support.
Giese highlighted the importance of preparing the community for the influx of visitors, suggesting the creation of welcome packages that include information about local attractions, dining options, and activities. This initiative aims to enhance the experience for participants and their families, encouraging them to explore the area during their stay.
The meeting also touched on the possibility of advertising through Virginia tourism to promote the event further. The club's representatives expressed their commitment to making the tournament a positive experience for both the visitors and the local community, fostering a spirit of collaboration among local businesses and organizations.
