In a recent government meeting, officials announced the successful acquisition of a $1.3 million grant through the small cities program administered by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). This grant, which covers 95% of project costs, will facilitate significant infrastructure improvements, including the paving of several key roads and the renovation of an underpass.
The small cities program has previously funded projects such as the paving of East Park Avenue and Springfield Road, and it is currently supporting the ongoing work on Lisbon Street. Officials expect the paving work to be completed by the first week of October, addressing long-standing concerns about the condition of local roads, which have been described as resembling a \"war zone.\"
In addition to road improvements, the city has also made strides in enhancing pedestrian infrastructure, with new sidewalks being installed in the affected neighborhoods. Future projects include the anticipated Southwest Street improvements next year and the Duquesne sidewalk project, which is awaiting the completion of a pedestrian bridge.
The meeting also highlighted the opening of bids for the Crestview raw waterline project, which attracted interest from eight contractors. This project is part of a broader initiative to expand the city's water supply, with plans to add two new wells to the existing 14, tapping into a different aquifer to diversify the water sources.
Overall, city officials expressed optimism about the progress of these projects, emphasizing the positive impact they will have on the community's infrastructure and quality of life.
