In a recent meeting of the Westwood School Committee, key administrative updates and initiatives for the new school year were discussed, highlighting the district's commitment to educational excellence and community engagement.

Superintendent Pfeifer introduced two new members of the administrative team: Samantha Bean, the new assistant principal at Pine Hill School, and Dan Tarratt, the director of Westwood Integrated Preschool and student services department chair. Both expressed enthusiasm for their roles and shared their backgrounds in education, emphasizing their commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment.

Pfeifer also presented a set of core norms developed over the summer to guide collaborative efforts across the district. These norms include keeping students at the center of decision-making, maintaining an equity perspective, balancing advocacy with inquiry, and promoting positive communication among staff. The superintendent believes these principles will enhance teamwork and improve educational outcomes.

Assistant Superintendent Caitlin Herna reported on the district's summer curriculum projects, noting that over 80 teachers participated in various initiatives aimed at refining and updating educational programs. A total of 25 curriculum projects were completed, ensuring that students across all grade levels will benefit from enhanced learning materials this year. Herna highlighted the importance of professional development, mentioning three summer courses designed by Westwood educators to improve teaching practices and student support.
