City of Atoka embarks on major zoning overhaul

In a recent meeting, the City of Atoka officials discussed significant changes to the city's planning and zoning framework, highlighting the need for a comprehensive overhaul of zoning classifications and maps. The city plans to allocate $50,000 for a new comprehensive plan aimed at restructuring existing zoning classifications, which currently include residential and commercial designations. Officials noted that the city's development has evolved, necessitating a reassessment of areas that may have shifted from residential to commercial use or vice versa.

The comprehensive planning process will be conducted in five phases, with payments made incrementally as each phase is completed, ensuring accountability and structured progress. This approach aims to address existing conflicts within zoning classifications that complicate building permits and development projects.

Additionally, the city is considering a professional services retainer agreement with Civic Dynamics LLC for $500 per month. This agreement would provide legal and consulting services related to planning and zoning matters, addressing various projects beyond the comprehensive plan.
