Developer reveals ambitious plans for unique surf park destination

In a recent government meeting, developers presented an ambitious plan for a new surf park and recreational facility, aiming to transform the area into a regional destination. The project, which includes a surf lake, retail spaces, restaurants, and a boardwalk, is designed to attract visitors of all ages, offering activities such as surfing, dining, and leisurely strolls along the waterfront.

The proposed site plan features a unique surf wave system that generates waves for surfers, alongside amenities like pickleball courts, a lazy river pool, and volleyball courts. The developers emphasized that the facility will not only cater to surfers but will also serve as a vibrant community hub, complete with food options and scenic views.

A key point of discussion was the water sourcing for the surf lakes. Developers assured that they would not utilize the city's culinary water supply. Instead, they plan to rely on 24,100 acre-feet of privately owned well water, with five operational wells on-site. This water will undergo a reverse osmosis process to ensure it meets safety standards for recreational use.

Concerns were raised regarding the geological challenges of the water source, which is described as brackish and unsuitable for landscaping. However, developers confirmed that the chlorination process would mitigate any potential issues, making the water safe for the surf park's operations.

The project, estimated to cost $70 million, is currently under construction, with plans to reduce the size of the lakes from 25 acres to 20 acres. The developers expressed confidence that the surf park will become a one-of-a-kind amenity, drawing visitors and enhancing the local economy.
