The Pitt County Girls Softball League celebrated a remarkable achievement at a recent city council meeting, honoring the team for their victory in the Little League Softball World Series. The team, which has become a source of pride for the community, showcased exceptional talent and determination throughout their journey.
The girls began their successful run at the district tournament from June 17 to June 21, where they defeated both the Tar River and Twin Rivers Little Leagues. Their winning streak continued at the state tournament from July 6 to July 10, where they triumphed over teams from Rutherford, Rowan, and Johnson counties, earning a spot in the World Series held in Greenville from August 4 to August 11.
Notably, the team played eleven games during the district and state tournaments, conceding only one run—a testament to their defensive prowess. The World Series saw them face off against international teams, where they achieved a series of impressive victories, including a 10-0 win against Asia Pacific and a 1-0 championship win over Southwest.
The council meeting served as a platform to recognize the girls not only for their athletic accomplishments but also for their role as inspirational figures for younger athletes in the community. The mayor expressed gratitude for their hard work and dedication, emphasizing the positive impact they have had on aspiring players.
As part of the celebration, each team member received a certificate of recognition, marking their historic achievement and the pride they have brought to Pitt County. The event highlighted the importance of community support and the value of youth sports in fostering teamwork and resilience.
