In a recent government meeting, the board unanimously approved the acceptance of $17,500 in donations for the robotics and tech department, marking a significant enhancement to the educational resources available to students. The donations, which include $1,000 and $16,500 from an anonymous benefactor, will be used to acquire a Unitree G1 robot, a humanoid robot that will provide students with hands-on learning opportunities in robotics.
Dr. Taylor, who presented the donation details, expressed excitement about the impact this technology will have on the high school robotics program, noting that it is one of the first units of its kind in the state. Board members highlighted the importance of such advancements in education, emphasizing the role of community support in fostering student learning and engagement.
The meeting also included a heartfelt tribute to Carol Toomey, a long-time educator and advocate for girls' sports, who recently passed away. Board member Jack shared memories of Toomey's contributions to the community and the profound impact she had on countless students over her 60-year career. The board acknowledged her legacy, which includes the naming of a track in her honor, and expressed condolences to her family.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for November 21, coinciding with the Thanksgiving break from November 25 to 29.
