Frustrated homeowner demands action on seawall repairs

In a recent government meeting, a resident of Punta Gorda Isles expressed frustration over the lack of action regarding the repair of his seawall, which has been deteriorating for five years. The resident, who has lived in the area for three decades, detailed his attempts to seek assistance, including multiple phone calls to various agencies and contractors, only to be met with confusion and delays.

Despite paying an annual tax assessment of approximately $1,200, the resident reported that his concerns about the seawall's condition, which poses a risk to his property, have not been adequately addressed. He described a situation where he was repeatedly transferred between different offices without receiving clear answers or a timeline for repairs.

During the meeting, city officials acknowledged the resident's concerns and directed him to Rick Keeney, the head of the public works department, who is responsible for canal maintenance. Officials encouraged the resident to discuss his situation directly with Keeney to find a resolution.

The meeting concluded with a call for any additional public comments, but no further residents stepped forward to address the council on the matter. The council then moved to close the public hearing, indicating a focus on resolving the issues raised by the concerned resident.
