Water damage crisis exposes building design flaws

A recent government meeting highlighted significant concerns regarding drainage issues at a municipal building, which led to water damage and safety hazards for staff. Maintenance personnel reported that a clogged drain caused water to accumulate to dangerous levels, ultimately seeping through roof vents.

During inspections, it was confirmed that the roof itself remained intact, with no visible damage such as tears or hail impacts. However, the accumulation of water resulted in the collapse of several ceiling tiles, creating an unsafe environment for employees.

Maintenance staff typically conduct regular checks, including clearing debris from the roof, but recent heavy winds contributed to the blockage. The drain's location, situated in the middle of the building rather than at the edges, was noted as a design flaw that exacerbated the issue.
