Opera San Antonio celebrates 10 years with groundbreaking mariachi opera

In a celebratory government meeting, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg proclaimed October 3, 2024, as Opera San Antonio's 10th Anniversary Day, recognizing the company's significant contributions to the local arts scene. As the resident opera company of the Taubman Center for the Performing Arts, Opera San Antonio has successfully showcased operatic masterpieces and innovative works over the past decade. This season marks a milestone as the company presents its first Spanish-language opera and a mariachi opera, \"Cruza la Cara de la Luna,\" which reflects the cultural heritage of the region.

General and Artistic Director Lauren Meeker expressed gratitude for the support from the city and emphasized the company's financial stability throughout its history. Opera San Antonio plans to reach over 20,000 community members through performances and educational programs, including 50 school performances and 20 community events in the upcoming season.
