The Architectural Board of Review convened on October 1st to discuss several key agenda items, including the design review for renovations at the Blair Park Aquatic Facility. John Beeler, Executive Director of the Lake Bluff Park District, presented the project, emphasizing the community's desire to maintain the pool's traditional character rather than transforming it into a water park. The renovations aim to preserve the facility's aesthetics while enhancing its functionality and accessibility.
Beeler noted that the project, which is set to begin this fall and conclude by May 2025—coinciding with the park district's centennial—will include significant underground improvements such as new piping and a pool liner. Additionally, the facility will see upgrades to meet ADA standards, ensuring better access for all community members.
Todd Abrams from WT Group, the engineering firm overseeing the project, detailed the scope of work, which includes the complete removal and replacement of the pool deck and fencing. The existing chain link fence will be replaced with a more visually appealing black aluminum fence, and new shade structures will be installed to enhance the outdoor experience.
The board expressed support for the project, recognizing its importance to the community and the anticipated improvements that will extend the life of the cherished aquatic facility. The renovations are expected to not only modernize the infrastructure but also maintain the beloved character of the pool that has served the community for over five decades.
