During a recent government meeting, local law enforcement officials reported significant statistics regarding crime and drug-related activities in the area. From January 1 to the present, there have been 1,379 citations issued, including 104 DUI arrests, 130 drug cases, 166 warrant arrests, and 153 other arrests. Additionally, 720 papers were served, highlighting ongoing law enforcement efforts.
Officials noted the execution of two residential search warrants related to drug trafficking, resulting in the seizure of methamphetamine, cocaine, and spindle. These operations were part of a collaborative effort with the KSB task force, emphasizing the importance of information sharing to combat drug trafficking and enhance community safety.
In terms of equipment upgrades, the department has received new gear, including 33 pages of cartridges, batteries, and other supplies from the University of Louisville. This acquisition is expected to save thousands of taxpayer dollars and replace obsolete models currently in use. The department is also in the process of installing block cameras, with three out of six already operational.
Furthermore, the meeting highlighted the receipt of body armor funded through an attorney general grant, which has saved the county approximately $6,000. The program aimed at increasing law enforcement presence in schools is set to begin this month, with a focus on drug awareness amid the ongoing opioid crisis. Officials expressed enthusiasm for greater community involvement in educational initiatives, particularly in addressing the challenges posed by substance abuse among youth.
