Major safety summit to feature live emergency response drill

During a recent government meeting, officials discussed the upcoming California Regional Common Ground Alliance (CARGA) Safety Summit Expo, scheduled for October 2, 2024, in Sacramento. Michael Wurster, a member of CARGA, provided details about the event, which will feature a simulated gas strike and interactive safety sessions aimed at educating participants on emergency response and damage prevention.

The event will take place at the Safety Center on Bradshaw Road, utilizing a miniature town called Safetyville for practical demonstrations. Attendees will experience a live emergency response scenario following a simulated excavation incident, followed by five interactive sessions that focus on safety protocols related to excavation and damage prevention.

Wurster emphasized that the event is free for registered guests, who will also receive lunch, although the public is welcome to attend the expo portion without registration. A link for guest registration and sponsorship opportunities will be shared with the board and made available on CARGA's website.

The meeting also included a reminder for public comments, with officials encouraging community input through the IDEA registry on their website. The chairperson acknowledged the importance of maintaining meeting decorum while ensuring that public voices are heard.

As the meeting progressed, there was no further board discussion on the Safety Summit, but all members expressed their intention to attend the event.
