During a recent government meeting, community member Sarah Monti expressed her gratitude towards the school board and administration for their responsiveness to student concerns regarding the dress code at Pilgrim Park Middle School. Monti, who is also a co-president of the Dixon PTO and a parent, highlighted the efforts of her daughter, Nina, a 7th grader, who bravely addressed the board in February about the inconsistencies in dress code enforcement across the district's secondary schools.
Nina's advocacy led to a productive dialogue with school officials, including Mrs. Cisterniak, who took the time to meet with her and discuss the issues raised. Monti noted that following this engagement, the dress code was enforced more fairly for the remainder of the school year. She proudly reported that the dress code policies for the upcoming school year have been standardized across all four secondary schools, aligning with the board's policy.
Monti's remarks underscored the importance of student voices in shaping school policies and the board's commitment to addressing community concerns. Her acknowledgment of the board's swift action reflects a positive outcome from the engagement between students and school officials, fostering a collaborative environment within the district.
