Nassau County officials are taking decisive action to address ongoing code violations at a property in Callahan, Florida, following a series of inspections and notices. During a recent meeting on December 10, 2024, Officer Travis Taylor of Nassau County Code Enforcement reported on a case involving a recreational vehicle (RV) parked at 55403 Cook Drive, which has been the subject of multiple complaints since August.
The property was found to be in violation of several code sections related to public health nuisances and the prohibition of unserviceable vehicles. After an initial inspection on August 20, Officer Taylor issued a courtesy letter to the property owner, granting a compliance deadline of September 4. However, a follow-up inspection revealed that the violations persisted.
Despite further notifications and a notice of violation sent by certified and first-class mail, the property remained non-compliant as of November 4. The county is now seeking a formal order to declare the property in violation of the relevant codes, with a compliance deadline set for January 13, 2025. If the property owner fails to meet this deadline, a fine of $50 per day will be imposed, with a hearing scheduled for January 14 to assess the situation.
This case highlights Nassau County's commitment to maintaining community standards and addressing issues that affect public health and safety. The county's proactive approach aims to ensure that residents adhere to local regulations, ultimately fostering a healthier and more orderly environment for all.
