Early voting for the 2024 primary election has commenced at the Sedgwick County election office, with 19 satellite voting centers set to open on July 30. Voters are encouraged to verify their assigned polling places ahead of the primary election day on August 6, as the county has introduced over two dozen new polling sites to streamline the voting process. This change means that approximately one in three voters will have a different polling location than in previous elections.
To assist voters in finding their new polling places, the election office has produced a video guide. Voters who have been reassigned should have received updated voter ID cards in the mail, highlighting their new locations. Additionally, the Kansas Secretary of State's voter view website allows residents to easily check their polling information by entering their home address.
In other news, Sedgwick County is inviting residents to participate in two upcoming budget hearings regarding the recommended budget for 2025. The hearings are scheduled for July 31 at 6:00 p.m. and August 21 at 9:00 a.m., both taking place in the Ruffin Auditorium. Community feedback is valued as the budget approaches adoption.
Furthermore, the county will host its annual Veterans Awareness Expo on August 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the WSU Metroplex. The event will provide veterans with the opportunity to file their DD 214 discharge papers and receive certified copies at no cost. Additionally, veterans and active-duty military personnel will be offered a free discount card for use at various businesses across Kansas, along with the chance to obtain a laminated government-issued ID.
