During a recent government meeting, officials discussed the phased construction of a new development project, which will impact parking availability in the area. The construction of Phase 2 is set to begin with the establishment of a parking garage, resulting in a temporary deficit of 164 parking stalls due to the closure of half of the existing surface lot.
To address this issue, the applicant has been instructed to apply for an Administrative Use Permit (AUP) to potentially utilize district parking during the construction period. Officials indicated that while some parking needs might be absorbed through this process, the applicant is also encouraged to explore alternative temporary parking solutions.
Commissioner Bigelow raised questions regarding the timeline for the project, specifically the expected duration for Phase 1 and Phase 2. While the development agreement outlines general timelines, it was noted that the applicant would provide more precise estimates. Preliminary expectations suggest that some portions of the project could be completed by spring 2026, although multifamily units may require a longer build time.
Concerns were also expressed about access to the parking lot, particularly regarding the absence of a direct exit onto Gilbert Road from the area near Building 7. However, it was clarified that there is an access point from Gilbert Road that leads into the parking lot, albeit not directly.
The meeting underscored the importance of managing parking logistics during construction and ensuring that the development progresses according to the established agreements.
