Residents rally against proposed development in Heritage Lake

Residents of Heritage Lake voiced strong concerns during a recent government meeting regarding the potential development of a 41-acre parcel of land in their community. The discussions highlighted fears about the impact of a proposed multifamily complex, particularly regarding property values, traffic safety, and environmental preservation.

CJ Mohovic, a long-time resident, questioned the financial implications of not constructing a low-income housing facility on the site, emphasizing the potential costs associated with increased public transportation needs and road maintenance. He also raised alarms about the land's susceptibility to invasive species and sinkholes, suggesting that the county should consider transforming the area into a park preserve instead.

Kathleen King, another resident, expressed skepticism about the park's utility, stating that it was not within walking distance for her or her senior neighbors. She argued that if the county intends to develop the land, it should bear the financial burden rather than passing costs onto residents through taxes.

Mandy Jacobs, a newcomer to the neighborhood, echoed concerns about safety and property values, noting that increased traffic could jeopardize the community's tranquility and safety for children. She highlighted the area's wildlife, advocating for its preservation.

Joe Tepidino and Maria Barch also voiced opposition to the development, with Barch specifically mentioning worries about flooding and infrastructure issues. The meeting concluded with a show of hands indicating overwhelming opposition to the proposed development among attendees.
