During a recent government meeting, discussions centered on the preservation of local historic properties and the establishment of a local historic district. The meeting highlighted the efforts to document Fairfield Avenue's historical significance, particularly following the passing of Linda Levin, whose daughter Carolyn provided a write-up of the area. Participants noted that while there are approximately 20 to 30 houses not currently included in the Massachusetts Historic inventory, they have gathered sufficient documentation to move forward with their inclusion.
To complete the necessary submissions to the Massachusetts Historic Commission, members agreed on the need for current photographs of the properties. One participant volunteered to take pictures of the houses along Fairfield Avenue, emphasizing that the quality of the images does not need to be professional. They discussed the possibility of using Google Maps as a resource for obtaining images, which could supplement the photographs taken.
Additionally, the group explored the idea of creating a PowerPoint presentation on how to establish a local historic district, which would be aired on Holyoke Media. This presentation would utilize existing materials from the Massachusetts Historic website, with plans to include a Spanish version to enhance accessibility for the community. The meeting concluded with a commitment to collaborate on these initiatives, aiming to foster greater awareness and appreciation of the area's historical assets.
