In a historic achievement, the Oak Park and River Forest High School (OPRF) boys track and field team clinched the IHSA Class 3A state championship last weekend, marking their first title in 37 years. This remarkable victory was highlighted by the outstanding performances of three individual athletes who secured state titles: senior Kaden Garland, who became the first OPRF boys track and field state champion in shot put since 1947; junior Caleb Schultz, who captured the championship in the 100-meter dash, a title not won since the 100-yard dash era in 1947; and junior Gigi Osayeboah, who achieved the first long jump state title for the school since 1924.
In addition to these individual accolades, the team collectively earned the boys team title for the 18th time in its history. The success of the program is attributed to head coach Tim Hasso and a dedicated team of assistant and volunteer coaches, who work tirelessly to foster a welcoming and successful environment for student-athletes from diverse backgrounds.
In recognition of their accomplishments, Lucia Robinson, on behalf of Vicki Skaman, president of the Village of Oak Park, and the board of trustees, extended congratulations to the OPRF boys track and field team and coaching staff for their record-breaking season. This victory not only celebrates athletic excellence but also underscores the commitment and hard work of the entire coaching staff and the supportive community surrounding the program.
