City leaders push for budget reforms to tackle homelessness

In a recent city council meeting, members discussed several key initiatives aimed at improving community services and infrastructure in San Antonio. Council member Alda Eta Gavito highlighted the importance of a dedicated code enforcement officer for short-term rentals, emphasizing that this role would enhance community support and provide residents with a direct contact for code-related issues.

The council also celebrated the success of the senior assistance pilot program, which has helped over 50 seniors and disabled individuals address issues such as overgrown grass and dangerous trees. This initiative, in partnership with the Gonzaga Foundation, aims to continue supporting vulnerable populations in the community.

Council member Castillo expressed gratitude for the ongoing work on the city budget, particularly regarding the allocation of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.
