In a recent government meeting, the approval of a development plan for up to 28 detached units was unanimously passed, following a motion by Commissioner Biggs and a second by Vice Chair Huber. The motion received affirmative votes from all present, indicating strong support for the project.
The meeting also addressed a proposal from Doug Justice of Jellybean Properties LLC for a multi-dwelling development on a 4.33-acre site located on the north side of Crenshaw Road. The area is currently zoned for planned residential use, allowing up to eight dwelling units per acre, with the existing land use categorized as agriculture and forestry. The staff recommended approval for the development plan, which includes up to 32 multi-dwelling units, contingent upon 11 specified conditions.
During the discussion, local resident Steve Kaufman expressed his opposition to the proposal, citing his preference for maintaining the single-family residential character of the neighborhood. Kaufman, who resides nearby, voiced concerns about the impact of increased density on the community, reflecting a sentiment shared by some residents who favor preserving the area's current zoning and land use.
The meeting concluded with the motion carrying forward, despite the expressed concerns, highlighting the ongoing tension between development initiatives and community preservation efforts.
