In a recent government meeting, the City of McKinney officially proclaimed August 24, 2024, as Job Corps Day, marking the 60th anniversary of the North Texas Job Corps. The proclamation highlights the program's significant impact since its inception, with over 2 million youth trained across the United States since 1964.
Mayor George Fuller emphasized the importance of the Job Corps, which opened its North Texas center in McKinney in 1966. The center has played a vital role in the community, providing education and vocational training to young people. In celebration of this milestone, the North Texas Job Corps will host a public open house featuring entertainment, food, music, and tours of its technical training facilities.
Bobby Brown, the center director, expressed pride in the program's long-standing presence in McKinney, noting that it has served the community for 58 of its 60 years. He reiterated Job Corps' mission to educate and empower youth, aiming to help them become productive members of society.
The event is expected to draw community members and raise awareness about the contributions of the Job Corps to local youth development.
