In her acceptance speech, Coronado expressed pride in empowering her students and emphasized the importance of voting as a next step in their civic engagement.
The board also proclaimed June 19, 2024, as Juneteenth in Santa Barbara County, recognizing the historical significance of the day when enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom in 1865. The resolution highlighted the ongoing struggle against systemic racism and called for community engagement in promoting equity and inclusion. Members of the NAACP expressed gratitude for the board's support in honoring this important day.
Additionally, the board celebrated the 10th anniversary of Honor Flight Central Coast California, which has provided veterans with all-expense-paid trips to Washington, D.C., to visit memorials honoring their service. The organization has flown 668 veterans since its inception, fostering camaraderie and recognition among those who served.
Lastly, the board proclaimed June 12, 2024, as National Women Veterans Day, acknowledging the growing demographic of women veterans and their contributions to the military and society.
