During a recent city council meeting in Nampa, Idaho, Mayor Debbie Cling announced the city’s official support for military and veteran caregivers through a proclamation recognizing the \"Hidden Heroes\" initiative. This initiative aims to raise awareness and provide resources for the estimated 5.5 million caregivers who support wounded, ill, or injured veterans.
The proclamation highlighted the often-overlooked challenges faced by these caregivers, who frequently do not identify themselves as such despite their significant contributions. It emphasized the need for greater recognition and support for these individuals, who play a crucial role in the well-being of veterans and service members.
Janice Bello, the state regent for the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in Idaho, expressed gratitude for the city’s support, noting that Nampa is the 31st city in Idaho to join this initiative. Bello outlined the DAR's objectives, which include educating caregivers about their roles, connecting them with resources, and fostering a supportive community.
The meeting began with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by roll call and the adoption of the agenda. The council unanimously approved the consent agenda before moving on to the proclamations. The recognition of military caregivers is part of a broader effort to ensure that those who serve veterans receive the acknowledgment and assistance they deserve.
