In a recent government meeting, officials discussed a new application for the conversion of a historic office building located at 250 Harrison Street, also known as 600 Montgomery Street, in downtown Syracuse. The proposal aims to transform the six-story structure into 35 residential apartments while preserving the existing tenant, Ale and Angus, which will remain operational throughout the renovation.
The project, presented by Eric from the agency, seeks authorization for a public hearing to formally consider the application at the next meeting. Dash Davidson, founder of High Tide Capital, which is spearheading the renovation, expressed enthusiasm for the project, marking his first venture in New York. Davidson highlighted the significance of the building's historic status, noting that it was previously ineligible for the National Historic Register and tax credit programs.
Through their efforts, Davidson and his team have successfully expanded the Columbia Montgomery Street National Historic District to include 19 additional buildings, making them eligible for historic tax credits. This initiative is expected to bolster the renovation efforts in Syracuse, which has seen success in revitalizing historic properties through similar programs.
The meeting underscored the importance of preserving the city's architectural heritage while addressing the need for residential space in downtown Syracuse. The public hearing will provide an opportunity for community input on the proposed project, which aims to enhance the local landscape and support ongoing revitalization efforts.
