Draper City officials convened to discuss a significant budget amendment for the fiscal year 2023-2024, presented by Finance Director John Veil. The amendment encompasses 18 items, including seven housekeeping measures aimed at ensuring compliance with financial record-keeping and audit requirements.
Veil highlighted that the amendment is necessary to address both end-of-year adjustments and to preemptively manage items that would typically appear in the fiscal year 2025 budget. This proactive approach is intended to maintain the city’s fund balance within statutory limits.
Among the new funding requests, the Jensen Farm Park requires additional financial support due to discrepancies between initial funding and actual bid amounts. Additionally, a budget amendment of $25,000 is proposed to facilitate employee access to the Fitzgerald House, ensuring necessary services are available. The Lone Peak culvert reconstruction project is also set to receive $100,000 in new funding.
The council also discussed a $150,000 allocation to cover overages from the 1300 East Highland project, which will be funded through B and C Road funds. Other items in the amendment include provisions for a new ambulance and a police tactical vehicle, which will be transitioned into the fleet fund.
The meeting underscored the city’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and transparency as it navigates budgetary challenges while planning for future needs.
