In a recent government meeting, Aaron Tooley presented a petition to rezone 3.85 acres on State Road 992 in the Dane River Election District from R1 Residential Suburban Subdivision District to an A1 Agricultural District. The proposed change aims to establish a private recreational facility and event venue. The Planning Commission had previously recommended the rezoning with a unanimous vote of 6-0, contingent upon proffers offered by Tooley, which include restrictions on alcohol, event hours, and adherence to noise ordinances.
Tooley, accompanied by his family, expressed their vision for the property, highlighting their desire to host community gatherings and tea parties, which they have been conducting in the area for two years. They emphasized their commitment to being good neighbors and maintaining open communication with the community.
However, the proposal faced opposition from local residents. Daniel Gussler, a neighbor, voiced concerns on behalf of over half of the homeowners on Homestead Trail, citing fears related to privacy, noise, traffic, and potential impacts on property values. Gussler presented a petition with signatures from 36 homeowners, indicating significant community resistance to the venue.
The public hearing remains open as the board considers the implications of the rezoning request, balancing the aspirations of the Tooley family against the concerns of the surrounding community.
