During a recent government meeting, local officials celebrated the achievements of the Southwestern Randolph High School varsity softball team, which clinched the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 2A state championship on June 1, 2024. The Cougars secured their fifth state title with a 3-2 victory in game two of the championship series, finishing the season with an impressive 23-7 record.
The meeting featured heartfelt remarks from officials, including a tribute to the strong relationships between faculty and students, highlighted during the recent graduation ceremonies. One official shared their experience attending the Southwest graduation, praising the event's organization and the evident connections between the principal and students.
The meeting also included a prayer led by Tracy Bowles, who expressed gratitude for the community and the accomplishments of local youth. Following the prayer, attendees recited the Pledge of Allegiance before moving on to the recognition of the championship team.
