During a recent government meeting, community advocate Lawrence Foreman urged city officials to consider repurposing an old building into a permanent warming and cooling center for the homeless, as well as a community center. Foreman emphasized the building's strategic location near medical services, public transit, and shopping, arguing that it would save both time and money for the city and county, which currently face challenges in finding temporary spaces for these services each year.
Foreman's proposal highlighted the community's desire to preserve the old building as a historical site while addressing the pressing needs of the homeless population. He suggested that establishing a permanent facility would alleviate the ongoing search for temporary solutions and reduce costs incurred by local governments.
Following Foreman's comments, the meeting transitioned to the consent agenda, where Mayor Hales presented three reappointments to the Library Board. The reappointments included Ali Bridal, Jessica Miller, and Kirsten Woodbury, each for a three-year term. The council moved forward with a motion to approve these reappointments, reflecting a commitment to maintaining continuity in library governance.
