The council proclaimed June as LGBTQIA Bridal Month, recognizing the contributions of the LGBTQIA community to the city. This proclamation aligns with nationwide celebrations of Pride Month, commemorating the Stonewall riots of 1969, which marked a pivotal moment in the fight for LGBTQIA rights. The city emphasized the importance of visibility, dignity, and equality for LGBTQIA individuals, particularly youth, and called for ongoing education to combat discrimination.

Dana Long, president and co-founder of Love Family, Mesquite's only LGBTQIA nonprofit, accepted the proclamation. Long addressed the alarming rates of discrimination faced by LGBTQIA youth, urging the community to foster understanding and acceptance. \"We are parents, we are churchgoers, we are leadership at work,\" Long stated, reinforcing the message that the LGBTQIA community is an integral part of Mesquite.

In addition to the proclamation, the meeting featured updates on local projects, including the development of a new skate park named \"The Skate Yard.\" The park's name was chosen through a community voting process, reflecting strong local involvement. A nine-year-old resident, Lincoln Backstead, was recognized for his contribution to the naming contest.

The council also acknowledged the Mesquite High School baseball team, which recently won the state championship. Coach Dan Wright and his staff expressed gratitude to local sponsors and the city’s Department of Recreation for their support, particularly during the renovation of the high school’s baseball field.
