During a recent Georgetown city council meeting, significant concerns were raised regarding the KEDFAA funding for the Goodwill Industries of Kentucky project. Dan Holman, a local resident, presented a letter highlighting ethical, legal, and economic issues surrounding a real estate transaction involving Goodwill. Holman alleged that an LLC in Lexington purchased a 2.35-acre parcel of land for $1 million and subsequently sold it to Goodwill for $2 million, raising questions about potential collusion and inflated pricing. He called for an investigation into the deal, suggesting it could lead to increased real estate inflation in Georgetown.
The council also addressed logistical matters, approving event applications for Georgetown College's freshman move-in day and a cycling event organized by Fountain Cycling. Both events will involve street closures to facilitate activities and ensure safety for participants and attendees.
In other updates, the council reported the completion of a left turn lane on Colony Boulevard, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion during school hours. Additionally, a new parking facility was established in the downtown area to accommodate increased demand due to ongoing construction projects, including the new city hall and farmers market, which is expected to be completed by November. The council anticipates further discussions on the demolition of a green building and the use of a corner lot for temporary storage related to utility work in the coming meetings.
