During a recent government meeting, officials discussed urgent infrastructure needs on Williams Road, specifically the replacement of five cross drain covers that have deteriorated due to rust. The proposed project includes two large concrete covers and three standard covers, with a total estimated cost of $26,786 for one location alone. The covers, priced at $206 per linear foot, require additional head walls costing $13,000, plus shipping expenses.
The meeting highlighted the critical nature of the repairs, as the existing drainage system is compromised, posing risks of road collapse. Officials noted that the current drainage pipes are significantly deep and in poor condition, which could lead to severe structural issues if not addressed promptly.
Two options for the second location were presented: a sectional box cover system costing approximately $32,480 or two rows of 48-inch covers totaling around $26,678. The box cover option is favored for its efficiency in handling flow and reducing maintenance needs.
The officials emphasized the necessity of these repairs, stating that failure to act could result in further complications and increased costs in the future. They also acknowledged that road closures would be required during the installation process, which could take several days.
A motion was made to approve the replacement project, with a request for clarity on which option to pursue for the second location. The officials expressed a desire to resolve these issues effectively to avoid future disruptions.
