In a recent government meeting, officials discussed the acquisition of a 2000 LTI bridal quint fire truck, which is expected to significantly enhance local firefighting capabilities and improve the community's ISO rating. The truck, equipped with a powerful 500 horsepower Detroit diesel engine and a 75-foot aerial, will be certified and tested upon arrival, ensuring it meets operational standards.

The current ISO rating, which impacts homeowners' insurance premiums, was a focal point of the discussion. Officials noted that the department received only 1.14 out of a possible 4 points for ladder service during the last ISO evaluation. By adding this new truck, they anticipate improving their score, which could lead to lower insurance costs for residents.

The truck will be deployed for every structure fire in the northern part of the county, including two-story buildings, and will be housed at the Old Town fire station. The estimated cost to equip the truck with necessary gear, including four new self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBAs), is around $40,000. In contrast, purchasing a new fire truck would exceed $2 million, making this acquisition a financially prudent decision, saving the department approximately $1.8 million.
