In a recent meeting, the Flagstaff City Council discussed key resolutions related to the upcoming November 5, 2024, election. City Clerk Stacey Salzberg outlined two significant ballot measures that will be presented to voters: the continuation of the existing Bed, Board, and Beverage (BBB) tax, and a potential increase in the local public transit transaction privilege tax, which supports Mountain Line services.
The council also approved an intergovernmental agreement with Coconino County Elections to facilitate the election process. This agreement, a standard procedure for the city, will cost approximately $100,000 based on the current number of registered voters, with the county charging $2 per voter.
Salzberg emphasized that this election will not be an all-mail ballot, unlike the special election held last November. Instead, voters will have the option to vote in person at polling places or request early ballots if they are on the active early voting list.
Additionally, the council announced a deadline of August 5 for the public to submit pro and con statements regarding the two ballot measures. These statements will be published in local newspapers and on the city’s website to ensure transparency and public engagement.
The meeting concluded with the council's approval of both resolutions, paving the way for the upcoming election and the opportunity for residents to weigh in on important local tax measures.
