During a recent government meeting, the South Brunswick High School women's softball team was honored for their historic achievement in winning the 2024 3A State Championship, marking the first state title in the program's history. Board member Mr. Paschal introduced the team, along with Coach James Pierce and Principal Dr. Lewis, highlighting the team's impressive season record of 28 wins and 4 losses, including a conference record of 12-2.

The Lady Cougars' journey to the championship included a notable victory against Scotland High School, the top-ranked team in the 3A bracket, which they defeated, handing Scotland their only regular-season loss. This victory secured the Lady Cougars home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, culminating in their championship win.

Coach Pierce praised the team's resilience and skill, recounting the excitement of their playoff games, particularly a dramatic comeback in the second round. He emphasized the dedication of the players, noting that they practiced diligently even on the morning of crucial games.

Key player Tina Davis was recognized for her outstanding performance, having been named both the Mid Eastern Conference Player of the Year and the Gatorade Player of the Year in North Carolina. Davis achieved an impressive earned run average (ERA) of 0.49 and a batting average of 0.419, contributing significantly to the team's success.

In addition to the team accolades, Coach Pierce and his staff were commended for their leadership and commitment to the players' development, both on and off the field. The meeting concluded with a call for continued support from the community as the team looks forward to the next season, with many players returning.

The meeting also recognized Coach Morgan King for her achievement in becoming a National Interscholastic Athletic Association certified athletic administrator, a distinction that reflects her commitment to professional development in athletics. Coach King expressed her gratitude for the support she received throughout her journey.
