During a recent Board of Education meeting, key action items were discussed, focusing on the approval of the school improvement plan and a new curriculum purchase for secondary education.
The meeting commenced with a presentation on the school improvement plan, which serves as a strategic roadmap for enhancing educational outcomes across schools. Each school presented its plan, which is managed through NC Star, a web-based tool designed to facilitate continuous improvement and accountability. The tool allows for real-time transparency, enabling staff, district personnel, board members, and parents to track progress. The board unanimously approved the submission of the school improvement plans for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Following this, the board addressed the proposal for the I Ready program, aimed at supporting middle school students in reading and math. This initiative is intended as a supplemental resource, complementing existing core curricula, which include Desmos and Open Up for math, and an in-house developed reading curriculum. The I Ready program will provide personalized learning pathways and diagnostic assessments throughout the academic year to monitor student growth and identify areas needing intervention.
The board discussed the financial feasibility of the program, ensuring that it would be affordable while still meeting educational goals. After addressing questions regarding the inclusion of Terlington students, who are part of the middle school demographic, the board moved to approve the curriculum purchase from Curriculum Associates.
Both initiatives reflect the board's commitment to enhancing educational quality and ensuring that students receive the necessary support to achieve their academic goals.
