During a recent government meeting, officials discussed the upcoming Washington Street Oktoberfest, a one-day community event set to take place on Saturday, October 21. The event, organized by the Meatpacking Business Improvement District (BID) in collaboration with IDECO and hosted by the Standard Hotel, aims to bring a festive atmosphere to the neighborhood.
Evan, the director of neighborhood operations and planning for the BID, expressed enthusiasm about the community's positive response to the event, which will feature a full street closure on Washington Street between West 12th and West 13th Streets. The event will include a beer tent, a Ferris wheel, and various activities, with setup beginning at midnight and the event running from 11 AM to 9 PM.
Aubrey from IDECO provided details about the event's logistics, including a site plan that ensures a 15-foot emergency lane will be maintained. While attendance is free, certain attractions, such as drinks at the beer tent and rides on the Ferris wheel, will require payment.
The meeting also addressed safety measures, confirming that the Department of Buildings will inspect the Ferris wheel to ensure compliance with safety regulations. The event is positioned as a celebration of Oktoberfest, aiming to engage the community and attract visitors to the Meatpacking District.
