El Paso County officials are ramping up efforts to promote tourism along the historic Mission Trail, a nine-mile stretch that showcases three active missions and celebrates over 350 years of local culture and history. During a recent government meeting, El Paso County Commissioner Eliana Hogin highlighted the significance of the Mission Trail as a vibrant community hub, where visitors can experience weddings, quinceañeras, and cultural performances by Tigua dancers.

The Mission Trail has garnered national recognition, being named the best historic site in Texas by Texas Travel Magazine for 2023. Additionally, the small community of San Elisario, home to the Presidio Chapel, was recognized by USA Today as the best historic small town in America. These accolades are part of a broader initiative to position El Paso as a must-visit destination, especially as the summer tourist season approaches.

Hogin emphasized the variety of activities available along the trail, including an art market featuring local artists and reenactments of historical events, such as Billy the Kid's jailbreak. The area is also home to new dining options and entertainment venues, including the Speaking Rock Entertainment Center, which hosts free concerts every weekend.

The commissioner encouraged potential visitors to explore El Paso's rich heritage and active community life, noting that the missions are not just historical sites but integral parts of the local culture, with regular masses held on Sundays.
