In a recent government meeting, significant updates were shared regarding ongoing maintenance and improvements across local schools, highlighting a commitment to enhancing educational environments.
The high school roof replacement project is progressing well, with the shingled area completed and work currently focused on specialized metal trim. Other maintenance efforts include the resealing and restriping of parking lots at Westlake Elementary and Dover campuses, aimed at preserving these facilities and ensuring safety for students and staff.
Dover Intermediate School (DIS) has seen substantial upgrades, including new classroom technology with the installation of projectors and whiteboards, as well as much-needed painting in classrooms that had not been refreshed for decades. The school has also benefited from kitchen upgrades and new air handling systems, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics.
In addition to physical improvements, the district is launching ParentSquare and Stopfinder, communication platforms designed to engage families and provide real-time updates on student transportation. The upcoming school year will also see new resources for teachers in English Language Arts and world languages, with a focus on high-quality materials to support student learning.
Athletic developments were also discussed, including the formation of the Cleveland West Conference, which features several former Southwestern Conference schools. This new partnership is expected to enhance competitive opportunities for local teams.
On the academic front, preliminary results indicate that the district is on track to maintain a five-star rating from the Department of Educational Workforce. Notably, the graduation rate has improved from four to five stars, and the performance index at the high school has reached its highest level since 2015. Additionally, participation in Advanced Placement (AP) courses has increased, with nearly 90% of students scoring a three or higher on exams, marking a significant achievement despite declining overall enrollment.
The meeting concluded with a sense of optimism as the district prepares for the upcoming school year, emphasizing a commitment to continuous improvement and community engagement.
