In a recent government meeting, officials discussed two significant rezoning requests aimed at facilitating residential development in the area. The first proposal involves a request to rezone approximately 28 acres from R-2 Urban Residential and A-1 Agricultural Districts to R-1 Single Family Residential. The plan includes the construction of 44 single-family detached dwellings, resulting in a density of 1.53 units per acre. This request aligns with the White Oak area plan adopted in 2022, which recommends suburban residential development with a density of two to five dwelling units per acre. The Planning Commission has deferred the associated Planned Unit Development (PUD) application for further revisions, with plans to revisit it next month.
The second proposal seeks to rezone six acres located south of the first site, also transitioning from A-1 Agricultural and R-2 Residential to R-1 Residential. This development aims to establish 29 dwelling units, achieving a density of 4.7 units per acre. Similar to the first case, this request complies with the White Oak area plan's recommendations for suburban residential development.
Both proposals received support from the Planning Commission, which noted no opposition during discussions. The upcoming meetings will further address the PUD applications linked to these developments, as officials continue to navigate the area's growth and residential needs.
