In a recent public hearing, the Martin County Board of Commissioners approved a zoning change for property owned by Dennis Seaglo, transitioning from an agricultural (A-2) designation to a rural estate (RE-2A) classification. The property, located in Western Palm City, is currently vacant and situated near the Hemingway Estates residential subdivision.
John Sennott, a senior planner with Growth Management, presented the application, highlighting that the change aligns with the future land use designation of rural density for the area. The RE-2A district allows for a minimum lot size of two acres, a maximum building height of 30 feet, and requires at least 50% open space. The proposal received unanimous support from the Local Planning Agency (LPA) prior to the hearing, with a vote of 4-0.
The board's decision to adopt the resolution amending the Martin County Zoning Atlas was met with no public opposition, and the motion was carried unanimously. The approval reflects the county's commitment to maintaining the rural character of the region while accommodating development that adheres to established zoning standards.
Following the zoning discussion, the board moved on to a workshop regarding the proposed budget for fiscal year 2025, with preliminary discussions indicating that certain services, such as the transportation disadvantaged bus service, were not included in the current budget proposal. Further details on the budget will be presented in upcoming meetings.
