A recent government meeting highlighted the successful groundbreaking of a new park in Sunset Vista, celebrated with a memorial 5K and 1K walk/run event that drew over 100 participants, including families of first responders. The event, which took place on Saturday, was marked by the presence of emergency medical services and a motorcycle group that was first on the scene during a tragic accident, adding a poignant touch to the occasion.
Dan Omasa from GoCo addressed attendees, recalling the origins of the funding for the park, which comes from the Colorado Transportation Fund (CTF). He noted that these funds had been allocated for some time but had faced delays due to personnel changes within the town. The project, which has been in the planning stages since around 2006, is now set to accelerate, with completion expected by the end of October.
The meeting underscored the community's commitment to enhancing local recreational spaces and honoring the memories of those lost in the accident, as well as the collaborative efforts that have brought the park project to fruition.
