Lexington County schools dominate archery championships again

In a recent meeting of the Lexington County Council, both the Peon Elementary and Middle School archery teams were celebrated for their remarkable achievement as IBO Outdoor 3D World Champions, marking multiple consecutive victories for the small schools. The council expressed pride in the teams' accomplishments, acknowledging their dedication and success.

During the meeting, County Administrator Mr. Starkey reminded attendees of the upcoming county council meeting scheduled for September 10, following the Labor Day holiday, during which county offices will be closed.

The council also passed a resolution honoring Jan H. Stamps for her extensive service on the Riverbank Zoo Park Commission, recognizing her contributions since 2006. Stamps has played a pivotal role in various initiatives, including the zoo's accreditation processes and the search for its new CEO. The resolution was unanimously approved, reflecting the council's gratitude for her dedication.

Additionally, the council reappointed K Mean to the library board, with the motion receiving unanimous support. The council also approved the minutes from a previous joint work session and moved forward with the second reading of an ordinance authorizing the issuance of up to $40 million in general obligation bonds for the Lexington County Rural Recreation and Aging Commission.

In economic development, the council approved Resolution 2402, which authorizes the enlargement of the boundaries of a joint county industrial and business park, furthering collaborative efforts between Calhoun and Lexington Counties. The resolution passed with a majority vote, although Councilman Whetstone opposed it.
