Residents of Chippewa Trail expressed significant concerns regarding a proposed sidewalk project during a recent government meeting. Jennifer Kuzmin, a local resident, highlighted confusion and misinformation circulating among neighbors about the sidewalk's planned dimensions, which some claim could extend as far as 15 feet into their front yards. Kuzmin emphasized the need for clearer communication from officials regarding the project specifics, including the potential impact on trees and landscaping.
Several other residents echoed Kuzmin's sentiments, advocating for the postponement or outright cancellation of the sidewalk project. Paul, a representative from the 21100 block of Chinook Trail, stated that their quiet street does not require a sidewalk, as it is not a thoroughfare for traffic and is safe for children to play. Other residents, including Steve Backner and Michael McGaney, voiced similar opinions, suggesting that funds allocated for the sidewalk could be better utilized for other community projects.
In response to the public's concerns, city officials confirmed that the design for the sidewalk is complete, but acknowledged the importance of addressing individual circumstances and questions from residents. They encouraged community members to reach out directly to the project manager for specific inquiries, aiming to improve communication and alleviate confusion.
The meeting underscored a growing desire among residents for more transparency and engagement from local government regarding infrastructure projects that directly affect their neighborhoods.
