During a recent government meeting, officials discussed two significant proposals concerning zoning amendments that could reshape local land use. The first proposal involves a request to amend the R5 zone, which currently restricts development to a specific area between 643 West and 800 between 27100 North and 28100 North. The petitioner seeks to remove this limitation, allowing the R5 zone to be applied in other areas of the city. The Planning Commission will review this legislative item and provide a recommendation to the city council for final approval. Notably, the commission has received several public comments opposing this proposal.
The second proposal pertains to a modification of the general plan's future land use map. This amendment aims to change the designation for 6.31 acres of land located at approximately 475 West Pleasant View Drive from low density (2 to 3 dwelling units per acre) to a mix of medium and low density residential and agricultural (4 to 8 dwelling units per acre). The petitioner indicated an intention to reduce the area in question to 4.31 acres, incorporating an A2 acre lot into the development. Similar to the first proposal, this amendment has also faced public opposition, with three comments received against it.
Both proposals highlight ongoing discussions about land use and zoning regulations in the city, reflecting community concerns and the potential for future development. The Planning Commission's recommendations will be crucial in determining the next steps for these amendments.
